Assignment Task

SFS7010 APPLIED SPORTS STATISTICS

Task:
For this assessment, you are required to produce a document that demonstrates your understanding and application of MBI statistical analyses and, consequently, how results should be presented for scientific publication and/or technical reports.

The idea is that, after 12 weeks of hard work and new concepts, you should now be able to select the appropriate statistical analysis for a dataset, report the correct output of the analysis, and present the results of a data collection in an effective way. To achieve this, we ask you to write up a document that includes only an abstract, methods, and results of either:
- A real research study that you conducted in the past, in which you did not use MBI, or
- A real research study that someone else has conducted and published, in which the author did not use MBI, or
- A research study that you are planning to conduct, or
- A fictitious research study

Important note: if you decide to use a previous study that had not used MBI, you need to perform statistical analysis from scratch using MBI, not simply convert p values to MBI.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN THE ASSESSMENT
The document should include the following parts (but not limited to):

• Title of the research project

• An abstract, including the following subheadings: background, aims, methods, results, conclusions

• A methods section, which will include:
a. Details of the population of interest (how many participants, age, etc.)
b. The rationale for the sample size selected
c. The research design was chosen to answer the research question
d. Details of the experimental overview
e. Details of how the data will be analyzed (using the appropriate MBI analysis). This is the most important part of the methods section and should occupy the majority of it!

• A results section, which must also include:
a. One table
b. One figure
c. Text

• Implications:
a. 2 bullet points that summarise the implications of the findings.
(N.B. the convention with results section is that the most important results go in table or figures, the rest goes in the text; generally speaking, there should be no duplication of results between tables, figures, and text)
