Assignment Task:

Case Scenario:

Organizations today are required by law to be equal opportunity employers. They must recruit a diverse workforce, enforce policies and training that support an equal opportunity program, and foster an environment that is respectful of all types of people.

Jason works at a large plumbing supplies intermediary which requires considerable office work on the computer using C.R.M software, dealing with manufacturers on the one hand and distribution outlets on the other. His immediate manager at work, Bruce, has been promoted to a higher-level management job at another department in the organization, and Jason has been asked by senior management to apply to be the replacement. Jason has only been at the firm for 6 months and is not convinced that he is ready to take on the responsibilities involved. Also, one of his colleagues, Elaine, has been with the firm for several years, has provided him with invaluable advice and support and he does not understand why she has not been asked to take over the management job vacated. Under the law, the job must be advertised, but after a quick discussion with his colleague, he finds out that she did approach the senior manager (John) about the job but he made it very clear to her that she would be wasting her time.

He is concerned that opportunities like this will not come his way very often and that he should go ahead and apply for the job. However, it also concerns him that the company seems to have a corporate culture that is sexist and that he would be endorsing that culture by ignoring it. He is also concerned that this attitude will mean that the best candidate will not be hired for the job.
