Check the Observation and Assessment checklists to ensure that you’ve covered all the required tasks.

You are working as a WHS Assistant for Plan2go and your supervisor is Stuart Percel, WHS Officer. There is an induction being held next week for two (2) new staff members and Stuart has asked you to prepare and present the section on WHS.

For this presentation you need to complete the following tasks:
Task 1
Prepare and deliver a 10 - 15 minute presentation outlining the following WHS information to ensure the new staff members have a thorough understanding of their WHS rights and responsibilities. You need to ensure that your presentation covers the following information:
The importance of the induction program in advising them of their WHS rights and responsibilities
How WHS Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice work in conjunction to provide a safe work environment for all employees
Plan2go’s policies and procedures and show where it is on the Plan2go Intranet
The importance of consultation in the workplace
Example of 2 hazards in the workplace and outcomes or risk assessment and control
Confirm a time with your assessor to deliver this presentation. Your assessor will help you organise small groups for this presentation.

Task 2
Prepare a handout with the information from your presentation that the new staff members can refer to.  You need to ensure that your handout covers the following information:
The importance of the induction program in advising them of their WHS rights and responsibilities
How WHS Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice work in conjunction to provide a safe work environment for all employees
Plan2go’s policies and procedures and show where it is on the Plan2go Intranet
The importance of consultation in the workplace
Example of 2 hazards in the workplace and outcomes or risk assessment and control

Task 1
Look at Plan2go’s Incident Data for the last three years (Plan2go WHS Incident Data.xlsx in BSBWHS401_AE_Pro_2of2_SR1).
What are the three main types of incidents indicated by this data?
What hazards could cause these types of incidents? List two for each.

Task 2
Explain which risk control procedures appear to be working well and which are not working well.

Task 3
Based on your analysis of the Plan2go WHS Incident Data, send an email to Stuart Percel to explain what WHS incidents have been improved in with control measures and as well as facilitate an organisational response to the inadequate risk control procedures identified in Task 2.

Scenario
Ellen Foster, CIC, has asked to see you about a training exercise that happened last Friday.  She explains:
“It all seemed like a great idea at the time. Ria Clarkson (Creative Services Leader) employed an external company to provide a fun, team-building training exercise in a simulated cyber-attack environment at our premises. Everyone in the Creative Services Team was there.”
Ellen goes on to explain that there were a few unexpected outcomes:
During the Friday training session, the property owner of the building decided to run a fire drill at 11:00 am. Some Plan2go staff were unsure whether to continue with the training exercise and refused to participate as they decided it was only a drill. Anita Ballentine (Multimedia Officer) commented “These are such a waste of time… seriously, everyone knows you just follow the dudes in the colored hats… They’ll tell us what to do and we’ll be right. No need to practice... it’s just cattle herding as far as I’m concerned.”
Ryan Edge (Production Officer) had noticed that the water dispenser in the corridor was leaking and there was water over the floor.  He was going to get someone to clean it up but didn’t get a chance before the drill started. He didn’t do the drill and forgot about cleaning the corridor.
Jeff Mackaville (Technical Support Officer) participated in the fire drill but slipped on the water in the second-floor main corridor.  He fell over and severely sprained his left wrist. He did not continue with the fire drill and drove himself to a nearby medical centre.  They strapped his wrist and advised him to reduce his work load to assist in his recovery. He did not return to work until the following Monday. Ria Clarkson witnessed Jeff’s fall but thought he would be OK and she would catch up with him in the designated evacuation area. Ria is not sure why the water on the floor was not mopped up as there are mops and buckets in cleaner’s cupboard for mopping up spills. The procedure in place is that any spills must be reported to Stuart Percel immediately and place Wet Floor signs (also in cleaner’s cupboard) around the spill.
Jessicka Jones (Web Developer) stated that she never received any WHS training as part of her induction and doesn’t know what’s required of her as an employee.

Scenario
Due to the number of incidents that have occurred, Stuart Percel, has requested that monthly WHS meetings are held for the Creative Services team.
Task 1
Stuart has asked that you create a generic agenda for these meetings. You need to ensure that there is time allotted for the following items:
Identified hazards
Implementation of policies and procedures
Consultation from staff
Evaluating risk control strategies that have been implemented and identifying alternatives if necessary.
Ensure that the agenda includes a brief summary of the objectives and that there is space for other agenda items to be added specific to each individual meeting.
Task 2
You are required to chair the next WHS meeting and need to modify the generic agenda you created in Task 1 to include the following topics:
Issues from team training day
Hazards identified in workplace inspection
Plan2go WHS incident data
You are to make a time with your assessor for this meeting to occur. The roles of the WHS committee members will be played by people assigned by you assessor. This role play will be assessed in the Checklist in Part 9, Tasks 1 - 4. This will assist you so you can prepare for the discussion.
Task 3
As there has been an incident relating to disease in the workplace raised in the WHS meeting, you need to record this in the WHS Register. You need to fill out columns B-W in the WHS Register worksheet of the spreadsheet and submit to your assessor.
