Assignment Task

Instructions:
This assessment involves collecting a 7-day diet record, filling out the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, analysing your micro and macronutrient intake and your physical activity, and providing commentary in the context of relevant national guidelines (see below).
We recommend using the free version of the website www.cronometer.com or associated app for the task of keeping a diet record. Other services are available but may not provide all the necessary details for this assessment.

Diet record collection and analysis
1. Record everything you eat and drink, including weights/volumes or household measures (e.g. teaspoons, cups etc.) over a single one week (Monday to Sunday, inclusive). Although we recommend recording straight into the www.cronometer.com website or app, a physical recording form can be printed from the Assessments tab on Blackboard; you can then enter this data into website/app at your convenience.

2. Use appropriate software to analyse the average macro- and micronutrient content of what you ate and drank over the week (this can be done directly within Cronometer, or you can use a spreadsheet). Provide this information in a table that also shows the relevant recommended dietary intake (RDI) or adequate intake (AI), and any upper level (UL) for your age and sex based on the Nutrient Reference Values for Australia New Zealand (NRV).

3. Using your chosen software to help you, design a one-day meal plan (with amounts) that meets the NRV for your sex and age group. Meeting means that meal plan meets or exceeds the RDI/AI for all micronutrients, but also be below the UL for all micronutrients (LO1).
Physical activity data collection and analysis
1. Fill out the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) available via the Assessments tab.
2. Analyse the data collected to produce a categorical score (this will be covered in a workshop).
3. Discuss your physical activity information collected via the IPAQ in the context of the Activity Statements of the New Zealand Eating and Activity Guidelines for your age group, and the implications your physical activity has for health, especially in terms of chronic disease risk (LO2).

To be complete, your submission must include the following sections:
1. A brief introduction of yourself in terms of age, sex, and what you are currently trying to achieve with your diet and physical activity;
2. A comment on the macronutrient content of your diet relative to Nutrient Reference Values for Australia New Zealand recommendations (LO1), specifically:
a. Pick at least one macronutrient and briefly discuss it in relation to its function(s) in the body, and the effect how much you are consuming may have on your health.
3. A comment on the micronutrient content of your diet relative to NRV recommendations (LO1).
Identify one vitamin and one mineral/trace element to discuss in greater detail, specifically:
a. Pick one that is high (vitamin or mineral) and discuss its function(s), sources, and possible implications for your health.
b. Pick one that is low (vitamin or mineral) and discuss its function(s), sources, and possible implications for your health.
