Overview of Employee Engagement
Employee engagement is identified as a practise to help the employees to feel passionate manage discretionary efforts in the work and fulfil the commitment towards the organisation. It promotes employee satisfaction and enhances their experiences in the organisation (Singh et al., 2016, p. 832).

This research is highlighting the relevance of employee engagement in organisations with relevant gaps (challenges) available in employee engagement practises in the banking industry. The results of this study indicated that there was high-level of job fulfilment available in public sector banking employees rather than private sector banking employees (Weerasinghe et al., 2017, p. 63).The identified gaps were employee’s salary scale, secure employment status, workplace conditions, awareness etc. According to these gaps the employee’s salary scale was the most important factor in job satisfaction in banking industry in Sri Lanka (Weerasinghe et al., 2017, p. 71).

To overcome these gaps the research identified that banks should provide more bonus criteria, salary increments, high over time payments can be offer to the employees who working at bank (Weerasinghe et al., 2017, p. 71). It can help in ascertaining several employee engagement practises used by different banks for their employees in Sri Lanka and their impact on employee satisfaction (Fernando et al., 2020, p. 101).
