Assignment Task

Module aims: This module aims to develop students’ critical awareness of the key concepts and theoretical background of health promotion. The module also seeks to inculcate an understanding of how this theory translates into the practice of promoting health and wellbeing, within local, national and global settings.

Module learning outcomes:
By the end of this module students should be able to:
1. Critically appraise a diverse range of approaches to conceptualising and assessing individual and population health and wellbeing, including an appreciation of traditional and lay-perspectives.
2. Identify, apply and critically evaluate different approaches and models within the health promotion field.
3. Apply the principles of health promotion to design and evaluate effective interventions and resources that aim to meet the health needs of individuals, communities and whole populations.
4. Critically review their own philosophy of health and wellbeing with reference to ethics, values, political perspectives and professional/disciplinary narratives.

Overview of learning and teaching activities on the module:
The module will use Blackboard Collaborate as a platform for live learning as a whole group (synchronous learning). This will take the form of interactive lectures that include: Powerpoint presentations, audio-visual materials, group discussions, Q and A sessions, personal stories related to the global health issues covered, academic skills support and formative feedback on activities that students have completed between these sessions. These sessions will be recorded and saved on to Blackboard.
In addition to this, students will be expected to complete independent learning to widen their knowledge and understanding and complete their assessment (asynchronous learning). As part of independent learning, students will be required to invest time exploring Blackboard which will provide information on reading, research activities, article reviews, seminar preparation, review of lecture notes and directed study tasks. Students will also be required to demonstrate their engagement through activities on Blackboard such as discussion boards.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in one-to-one/small group tutorials with the module leader for formative feedback and assessments support.
