A square single-cylinder double-acting reciprocating pump is driven by a standard slider-crank linkage and is required to deliver 2000 1/min of water against a pressure of 140 psi. The following data are given for the pump: • 150 mm bore diameter and the connecting rod length is three to four times that of the crank. 
Teams of students are required to design the system which should include a two- or three-stage spur and/or helical gearbox to reduce the motor speed to a value suitable to drive the crank shaft of the pump. Perform the necessary design calculations on Matlab.
