The task:

This assessment is to be undertaken individually by each of the students enrolled in the course. In the Library there is an excellent collection of books about individuals working in Australian businesses. Please choose one of these books and confirm your choice with your tutor.These books present to the reader a completely authentic situation. The book you have chosen tells the story of an actual individual pursuing a career in business. This final assessment asks that you do an ethical analysis of such an individual. Specifically, it asks that you read the book which you have chosen and identify the defining moments for the executive whom the book is about in business.

 

Professor Joseph L. Badaracco teaches the Harvard University MBAs Business Ethics. Badaracco in his book “Defining Moments” (Harvard Business Review Press, 2016) explains that such moments occur when managers face business decisions which can make or break their careers and these decisions conflict with their personal values.This assessment is worth and there are five parts that are worth equal marks.

 

Under the subheading

 

(a) please list the defining moments for the individual you are examining and explain why you believe they constitute defining moments for that individual.Next under the subheading

 

(b) please use Nina Rosenstand's ‘The Moral of the Story' recommended textbook and explain how Jean-Paul Sartre would have viewed those defining moments for that individual. Base this please upon the discussion of Sartre in Chapter 10 of that book and also upon the primary reading by Sartre at the end of that chapter. Please remember that Sartre insists that we must ensure that we are “living with authenticity” (Rosenstand, 2018, p. 502).After that under the subheading

 

(c) still using Nina Rosenstand's ‘The Moral of the Story' recommended text book explain how Christina Hoff Sommers would have viewed those defining moments for that individual. Base this please upon the discussion of Sommers in Chapter 10 of that book.Then under the subheading

 

(d) still using Nina Rosenstand's ‘The Moral of the Story' recommended text book explain how Friedrich Nietzsche would have viewed those defining moments for that individual. Base this please upon the discussion of Nietzsche in Chapter 10 of that book. Note that Nietzsche much like Sartre is concerned with what “an authentic existence consists of” (Rosenstand, 2018, p. 492).Lastly under the subheading

 

(e) still using Nina Rosenstand's ‘The Moral of the Story' recommended text book explain how Emmanuel Levinas would have viewed those defining moments for that individual.
