Feedback on Assessment
Feedback is an important part of the learning process that can improve your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes. Feedback is any written or spoken response made in relation to academic work such as an assessment task, a performance or product. It can be given to you by a teacher, an external assessor or student peer, and may be given individually or to a group of students. As a Western Sydney University student, it is your responsibility to seek out and act on feedback that is provided to you as a resource to further your learning.
The Assessment Policy provides that assessment feedback is available to students in a timely way. Your lectur-er/tutor will normally provide you with your mark and written feedback within two to three weeks of the submission date, given that your assessment is submitted on the due date.

Overview
Assessment 1 and assessment 2 are intended as a means for students to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical perspectives o?ered by the disciplines of business and organisation studies. Through an analysis of an organisational business model case (see below - Paplul), students are expected to address a range of key theoretical perspectives on processes and practices that relate to organisational structures, people management, marketing and finance. Students will draw on the Essential and Recommended Readings as set out in this Learning Guide as well as their own research. Details
Assessment 1 and assessment 2 require you to make use of the information provided in the business model summary below - Paplul, and demonstrate how your organisational design allows this business model to manage its resources and promote and support its products and services.

Knitwear manufacturer and retailer (company name is imaginable)

Paplul is a long-established iconic producer of fine woollen knitwear. This family owned business started in 1962 in South Australia and is now based in Mittagong in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Paplul, designs, manufactures and retails knitwear for men, women and children using fine and extra fine Merino wool sourced from premier wool growing regions in Australia. The turnover now exceeds $70 million per annum.

Paplul is the polar opposite of fast fashion. Stringent quality controls are in place to ensure the process from sheep’s back to your back does not cause ecological harm and delivers products that look good, are long lasting and feel soft and prickle free even on the most sensitive skins.

Our wool comes from ’regenerative farmers’ whose ethos extends beyond sustainable practices to those that at-tempt to reverse historical damage to the land. They aim to lessen their impact on the environment by increasing biodiversity, reducing chemical inputs, restoring carbon to the soils and improving animal welfare, for example they do not mules their sheep. Beyond the farm stringent controls have been negotiated with our supply chain to guar-antee this wool is not contaminated with other wools and their standard processes to ensure that cleaning, spinning, colouring, design, machining, and construction of the final garments in our factory will not cause ecological harm.

All garments are manufactured in our own modern well-equipped factory and this ensures we are able to main-3 tain tight, well established quality control that is renowned world-wide. Fabric is cut into panels and sewn into garments and yarns are knitted directly into knitwear garments. Controlling production directly enables us to make use of all of the fabric and yarn. For example, cutting our garments so o?cuts can be used to create many of our accessories such as gloves, beanies and mittens. At the end of this process if any small amount of fabric or yarn remains, this is then sent to an organic composter to be used for fertiliser and soil conditioner - all part of our aim to reach zero waste across all areas of the business.
The factory is also the distribution centre from where all orders are shipped direct to retailers or customers us-ing the online store. Our clothing range includes jumpers, cardigans, skirts, jackets, thermals, hats, socks, gloves, scarves and under- wear for men, women and children. Paplul does not own any retail stores it distributes knitwear directly to independent retail outlets throughout Australia and to selected retail outlets in the UK, Europe and North America. Over the last ten years Paplul has established an online presence, which has been growing steadily due to the interactive nature of the website. In the last year, a unique feature of the website was added that has seen a dramatic increase in sales. Paplul created a unique avatar that people can change to reflect their body shape, size and image to model in virtual reality the garment they wish to purchase and see what it will look like on them. This website has been well accepted and streamlines the purchase and delivery processes. Paplul has some 70 sta? most of whom work in production from design through to manufacture and ship-ping. Theb sales and marketing team is small, as is the corporate support o?ce, which handles the accounting, human resources and information technology functions. The majority of sta? work in production and are highly skilled. The skills range from design to cutting and machine operation. All sta? are paid over the award in recognition of their capabilities and also to minimise sta? turnover as production sta? in Australia are becoming harder to source, and costly to replace, as manufacturing facilities continue to close moving production overseas.
