Assessment Task 2 Instructions as provided to studentsComplete the following activities:
Carefully read the following scenario.
Grow Management Consultants specialises in leadership consultancy. It has been operational since 2010. The company offers a range of services to assist companies to assess leadership behaviour of existing managers and performance metrics. They also design and implement customised leadership programs based on the assessment. Services are offered Australia-wide.
The company offers regular professional development workshops on all aspects of leading and managing staff. The workshops are conducted every 3 months in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, where they also double as networking events. The workshops are the principle means of advertising for the company’s consultancy services, where most of Grow Management Consultant’s income is generated. Furthermore from next year the company will also run live webinars so as to facilitate access to professional development regardless of location. These will be held every two weeks and be facilitated by the senior consultants.
Currently the company is located in Sydney CBD. However, due to growth and an increasing number of clients in that city, the company has leased a floor of a building in Melbourne CBD where it will mirror the operations of its Sydney office.
The company requires a network architecture that will link the two offices.
Identify client needs.
The first part of this assessment requires you to meet with the client (your assessor) to discuss their needs in relation to the ICT network, as well as the specifications for the proposed network.
At the meeting, you will need to:
Discuss needs in relation to the ICT network. This should include:
Business requirements i.e. the nature of the business and ICT requirements
Objectives in relation to the ICT network
Business specifications, including budget and timelines
Problems associated with current ICT network
Opportunities that will be created by the ICT network.
Take notes during the meeting.
During the meeting, you are required to demonstrate effective communication skills including:
Speaking clearly and concisely
Using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding
Asking questions to identify required information
Responding to questions as required
Using active listening techniques to confirm understanding
Develop ICT Network Architecture Design.
Following the meeting you are to develop the ICT Network Architecture Design as per the discussions held at the meeting.
Determine the technical requirements of the ICT Network Architecture Design, including hardware, software and network elements as per the specifications provided at the meeting.
Then develop a diagram of your proposed design.
Document your findings and diagram in Preliminary ICT Network Architecture Design Report.
Your report should include:
A summary of the outcomes of the meeting with the client including:
Business requirements i.e. the nature of the business and ICT requirements
Objectives in relation to the ICT network
Business specifications, including budget and timelines
Problems associated with current ICT network
Opportunities that will be created by the ICT network.
Diagram of the proposed network design.
An outline of the hardware, software and network elements that will make up the design, as well as potential suppliers of, and costs of each of these elements. Include at least two recommendations for each hardware, software and network element you recommend and associated technical specifications, as well as costs.
Likely impact of the network design on the business requirements.
Predicted current and future traffic demands and how the network will perform based on these forecasted demands.
Assessment of how the proposed network design will meet required performance, including target data rate and avoiding interference and any other factors as per the meeting discussion.
Use Preliminary ICT Network Architecture Design Report Template to guide your work.
Submit your Preliminary ICT Network Architecture Design Report to the client (your assessor). You will be provided with feedback, which you will use to finalise your report.
Finalise ICT Network Architecture Design.
You are required to incorporate the feedback from your assessor on your preliminary design and incorporate this into your report.
Complete a final check on your ICT Network Architecture Design to ensure it meets all performance and business requirements.
At the same time you are to complete the following additional activity:
Determine the support and training requirements that will be required to ensure your design is implemented as effectively as possible. Add a section to your Final ICT Network Architecture Design about the support and training that will be required.
Submit your Final ICT Network Architecture Design Report to the client (your assessor) via email. In your email you should request approval of your final design.
