ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS 

The purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate your ability to support recruitment process, through the development of recruitment and selection documentation. 

The scenario for this assessment is that you have been asked by the HR Manager to assist with the recruitment and selection of a new role at Bluecat Industries. The role you are recruiting is an Assistant HR Officer. You will be assisting with the position description, selection criteria, advertisement and the preparation of interview questions. 

Later, for assessment two, you will actually submit a video of yourself role playing part of the interview. For now, focus on assessment one. A detailed help document has been prepared for you, which you should read carefully. It contains a lot of learning materials and advice regarding recruitment and selection which will help you clearly understand the expectations of the tasks below. 

 

  1. Clarify Expectations

For the role of an Assistant HR Officer, complete all sections of the Selection Criteria Brainstorm Table with realistic information. 

This activity will help inform the subsequent documentation and processes for the recruitment of the Assistant HR Officer. 

 

  1. Know the Rules

For two of the below items, give an example, describe its potential impact on the design of a job description and explain why it should be taken into consideration. 

  • Organisational policies and procedures

  • Legislation and national standards

  • Work health and safety

  • Organisational policy regarding diverse workforce

 

  1. Advertising

  1. Recommend the appropriate places to advertise this role.

  2. What is an example of how a company’s policy or procedure might impact the advertising strategy decided?

  3. For the role of Assistant HR Officer, you are going to advertise it on an internet job search site (such as LinkedIn or Seek.com.au) and you are going to advertise it on the company’s notice board. Develop these two job ads.

  4. Shortlist Candidates

  5. Review the four candidate applications provided and complete the Shortlist Review Report for your HR Manager.

  6. Develop an email to shortlisted candidates and invite them to an interview. Be sure to include clear information about the time, location, and what to expect. 

  7. Selection Panel

Develop an email to the selection panel advising them of when they are required to participate in the interview. 

 

Interview Questions

  1. Develop 10 interview questions appropriate to interviewing candidates for the role of Assistant HR Officer as per the selection criteria you documented in the brainstorming document.

  • 2 questions to use at the introductory phase of the interview.

  • 6 behavioural questions. 

  • 2 questions to use at the concluding phase of the interview. 

  1. Comment on why interview questions need to comply with legislative requirements.
