Assessment 1: Sample outline Reflective essay SDH

Introduction: (3-5 sentences say around 100 words) THIS ISN’T A SUMMARY BUT A PLAN
Identify the topic-this gets the reader’s attention (SDH, the model you will use to reflect on these)
Give essential but sufficient background information-this orients the reader (challenges for vulnerable populations such as….in accessing the SDH with a focus on one)
Indicate the direction and angle of your argument-this focuses and defines the topic (the negative impact of the above and nursing actions that can improve this and result in better health outcomes)
The introduction starts off general and ends focused.
Body-this is where you gain the bulk of the points, look at the rubric it will be criteria 1-3: (around 700-800 words)
The body of the essay consists of a number of paragraphs in which you present your main points and supporting evidence.
Paragraph 1 criterion 1 “What”
What are the SDH, and say how they relate to health, then identify one in particular that you want to focus on. Now introduce the chosen vulnerable group and how accessing this SDH (e.g. education or employment etc.) may be more difficult.
Paragraph 2 criterion 2 “So what?
Don’t just say that reduced access results in lower life expectancy but how does the reduced access result in lower life expectancy or higher alcohol consumption or higher incidence of diabetes….what is the end result of not having access to the SDH.
Paragraph 3 criterion 3 “Now what?”
Specific nursing actions not just ‘I will provide holistic evidence based care’;
Now discuss the benefits of reflective practice, look at standard 1.2 in the NMBA standards that refers to reflective practice to guide this discussion.
Conclusion (4-5 sentences say around 100-150 words):
Summarise your main points, refer back to the question
Come to a conclusion or judgement
You shouldn’t introduce any new material or references here
