The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious problem for the global citizen, where the flow of the coronavirus disease is very quickly spread affect people’s livelihoods, such as economic activity, public health, social and political issues, etc. The impact of COVID-19 presents an unpredictable risk on the global recession. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic is observed in every sector of Indonesia as well as the world is badly affected by this. One of the impacts is on educational institutions. COVID-19’s impact has been disrupted education systems around the world. However, the impact of COVID-19 on education has been positive outcomes apart from the many negative aspects of the pandemic.

The pandemic yet most of us celebrated diligently large extent and in any context, which is the trends of teaching and learning process due to the pandemic in Indonesia. The government in Indonesia has issued related public policies breaking the chain of transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the implementation of PKKM policies. COVID-19 and its associated school closures present significant challenges for the education system in Indonesia. In educational institutions, the government has provided a solution to anticipate the entire academic community to keep doing study from home as the right step, such as providing online classes from the elementary-universities in all regions of Indonesia. However, the policies issued by the government have not been able to fully realize the learning system that effective. The factors for the effectiveness of online classes are visible limited facilities and infrastructure to support and facilitate participant access to learn during the learning process.
the positive side of education from the pandemic is to give innovation in the process of teaching and learning activities to improve the quality of students. The benefits of having an appropriate learning method with clear communication able to give directions COVID-19 have accelerated the adaption of digital technologies to deliver education. Educational institutions moved towards a blended mode of learning. in encouraged all teachers and students to become more technology savvy. The pandemic situation induced people to learn and use digital platforms and resulted in increasing digital literacy. Learning materials are shared among the student easily and the queries are resolved through e-mail, SMS, phone calls, and using different social media. Students are able to manage their time more efficiently in online education during pandemics. The teachers have also adopted new methods of teaching, especially for video conferencing which is considered as one of the fast learning mediums of teaching.

However, from the other side, there are serious problems with the teaching and learning process during this COVID-19 pandemic which requires students to change learning methods. That all activities are counted online and this is the challenge for many students, especially for supporting the online classes. Thus, the online learning method during pandemic may enhance the gap between urban and rural. More people can access the internet but there are many students has limited access for using gadget. So, that is the negative impact of COVID-19 on education. Education sector has suffered a lot due to the outbreak of COVID-19. It has created many negative impacts on education.

Basically, a digital-based learning system carried out during a pandemic in accordance with the ideals of independent learning that has been proclaimed by the Minister of Education. This means that the government does not have to go to great lengths to suppress education providers to use technology in learning. In essence, the vision of independence of learning proclaimed by the Minister of Education has very good. However, if the vision is prepared and designed carefully, it will much better because there are still many problems with digital-based learning systems which need to be evaluated. Thus, it is necessary to conduct research to determine the problems of digital-based learning systems in Indonesia.
