ABSTRACT

The study based on presenting a robust supply chain using the concept of Fog computing considered an emerging technology in the recent trends. We can say that Fog computing is an extension of cloud computing in which end devices interact with each other to reduce the latency. Latency and bandwidth are the two prominent parameters that need to be managed using the control actions. The proposed Fog model is a sensor-based model that is divided into three different layers: Layer 0 –sensor-enabled, Layer 1 – Control or Monitoring layer, and Layer 2 – Cloud server. The use of fog nodes in the proposed model reduces the latency and decaying rate of the fruits. The supply chain of harvesting the fresh fruits and vegetables has been studied and further controlled using the Fog computing model. The controlled environment is maintained by measuring the different parameters such as temperature, humidity, air quality, pressure, etc. Additionally, an algorithm presented and developed using the MATLAB software to compute the shelf life of the fruits. Further, the iFogSim tool kit is used to model the results. The effectiveness of the proposed model is checked by computing different parameters such as latency, and network utilization. The experimental results compared with the traditional cloud architecture to determine the efficacy of the developed system.

Supply Chain Management
The supply chain networks became complex nowadays due to an increase in geographical dispersions. SC involves the sequence of the organization for the completion of different processes and activities to provide the products and services to the customers. Additionally, SCM consists of different steps such as planning, implementation, and effectively controlling the supply chain operations. The main aim of SCM is to ameliorate the collaboration and interaction among supply chain partners so that inventory in the stock and its velocity is maintained and improved timely.

RFID
RFID is a sensor-based technology in which products have been tagged for tracking purposes from the manufacturing sector to the final warehouse. RFID technology is different from the conventional barcode for the registration of bulk items, data storage, identification of an individual product, robustness towards environmental disturbances, and destructions. The main advantages of incorporating the RFID technology with Fog computing are the prevention of obsolescence, counterfeit, reduced chances of theft, quick decision making, the threat of decreased inventory, and revamping the product's visibility. The pros and cons of using the semi-passive tags for RFID are:-

Pros
? Backscatter power is low
? Overhead is low and the use of simple communication protocol.
? Inexpensive.
? Easy communication.
