Good morning/Afternoon Students and teacher, today, I would like to discuss how the government should provide free digital devices to students in public schools, such as iPads and laptops. I would like to start by mentioning the Head of Senior School, Mr Jack Franklin, as he has stated to begin that it “depends on the student, but it does benefit students as they can easily access information and communicate with each other.” <-- Explain why his quote is important. Furthermore, Many public secondary schools have a bring your own device (BYOD) program, in which parents are obliged to purchase an iPad or laptop for their child. Some private schools include an individual device as part of school fees. In the early days of many BYOD initiatives, public schools often asserted that ‘any device will suffice’. However, this meant that not all of the students had access to digital devices due to reasons such as low-income and will not be able to pass these terms. However, rather than students paying for the devices the government should supply or cover the cost for these devices. Regardless of cost for this program this effort for distribution of tech is far more valuable, is it not?. <- state contention clearly.

There has been a great disadvantage in schools with the lack of access to devices. <-- All the time or during covid? or both? <- link argument to contention. According to the Victorian agency department, the government has loaned over 50,000 laptops and tablets to students so far, allowing them to surf the internet and study from home. A total of 15,000 SIM cards and dongles have been distributed. This scheme of loaning students’ digital devices to help them continue learning via online classes sounds great but at the end of the day it is still a loan. However, if the government were to no longer provide access to digital devices, the consequences might be severe. Many students will be left disadvantaged, without any devices creating the inequality of resources for learning between students who do not have devices and the students who do. Those students left without devices will fall back becoming behind in studies or receiving lower study scores in subjects or lower marks overall compared to students with access to tech but with the necessary access to the prominent resource’s students will all be able to achieve their fullest capabilities.Moreover, there has been various issues with lack of access to devices such as the case with Azam, in his 10th year of schooling during lockdown Azam was not given an iPad earlier and had difficulty progressing with his studies compared to the other students with iPads. Azam states “it was so hard, but I still got the work done, it would’ve been easier with the iPad or laptop easily communicating with my teachers”. This case furthermore shows disadvantages set for some individuals during their secondary schooling years, truly hindering student’s potentials.  <-- you need to PROVE that not having access to a device is a learning disadvantage.

These projects likewise help them learn technology skills they will most likely need to succeed in the modern workforce. Furthermore, Ineffective correspondence among teachers and students can be a hindrance to learning and education. Whereas Tech can change the classroom into a network where teachers post assignments progressively, and students can ask questions more easily–of teachers and of their peers–and reference a structured record of past discussions, they can even use video conferencing to discuss projects face to face, create online study groups, tech offers wide, easy collaborative capabilities. <- link to contention.
