Scenario - Remote Kimberley
Research for Community Engagement during the economic uncertainty of COVID19! The Kimberley is Western Australia's most northern region, with the Broome coastline closer to SouthEast Asia than it is to Perth. Bordered by the Pilbara region to the south and Northern Territory to the east, the 424,517 square kilometer region has fewer people per square kilometer than almost any other place on Earth. 40% of the population lives in the Shire of Broome. The region is culturally rich with approximately half the population comprising Aboriginal people that represent more than 30 traditional Aboriginal language groups.

  • As communities around the world are dealing with the global COVID19 pandemic Shire of Broome had to navigate the following challenges: mitigate disinformation,
  • provide an outlet for residents to share their ideas and concerns, as well as
  • provide a comprehensive location for COVID-19 related resources to support community needs and help the art industry.
  • The Shire wants to use online engagement software to provide a constant stream of information regarding COVID-19 to their community.

The purpose of this engagement project is to:
• deliver current information daily
• reflect what is happening at the federal and state level
• provide resources for the struggling local tourism industry and those who have found themselves unemployed during the pandemic!
