Phase A: Background information includes:

  • The learners being trained.
  • The context of the training (e.g. industry, method of delivery)
  •  The Unit of Competency being addressed in the training

  • Determine the ACSF core skill LLN skill requirements and level of each of the five core skills of reading, learning, writing, oral communication and numeracy within the training specification/Unit of Competency/Qualification delivered.
  • Identify and analyse the ACSF core skill LLN skill requirements that are essential to workplace performance.

Phase C: Determining the ACSF Levels of a learner
Candidate has demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to:

  • Determine the sources of information that are available in the workplace to gain information required on the current LLN skills of the learner groups.
  • Conduct a core skill assessment of the learner group using a validated LLN core skill assessment tool.
  • Determine the core skill levels of at least one learner in regards to learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy using a nationally recognised

Framework such as the Australian Core Skills Framework.

  • Decide whether specialist or external support will be required by reviewing the course demands against the learner profile.
  • Demonstrate how to access specialist support and integrate it to inform trainingand assessment practice.

Phase D: Identify and apply strategies to bridge the LLN skill gaps

  • Candidate has demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to:
  • Identify available sources of support to address at least two of the identified LLN skill needs of the learner group.
  • Select, use and review at least two instructional strategies that directly address the identified LLN needs of the learner group.
  • Determine learning support strategies in this training delivery that would be appropriate to the LLN requirements and learner group.
  • Customise at least two existing learning resources to address the identified LLN requirements. These are submitted.
  • Determine assessment strategies appropriate to LLN requirements and learner group.

Phase E: Self-reflection

Candidate has demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to:

  • Evaluate learning support and assessment strategies used.
  • Determine areas for improvement based on evaluation.
  • Determine areas for improvement of own practice.
