The town has been slowly growing over the past few years, and the state government has decided to build a water supply scheme to supply houses in the area with reticulated potable water. Estimate the yearly population growth patterns using both the arithmetic and exponential growth models. Use Excel ‘Trendline’ to draw the growth patterns and equations. Which growth model provides the best estimate? (in general, R2 value for the trendline is an indication of best-fit, higher the value better it is). Determine the Maximum Day Demand of water for the city in 2040 assuming the better growth model is valid. You can adopt average water demand for Victoria (222 l/person/day). You may need to go through the lecture slides of Week 9. Selection of Peak Day Factor (PDF) can be based on population at the year 2000.

The ‘Maximum Day Demand’ calculated in the above calculation should be multiplied by 1.Y, as explained in the Assignment 1.

A reservoir tank is to be constructed to supply the community based on estimated demand for 2040. Hourly consumption pattern (as % of total daily consumption) is given in the file “Assignment 3 2021 Data.xlsx”. The pump used to supply the reservoir will operate over a six (6) hour period from midnight to 6 am to take advantage of cheap electricity charges. Determine the size of reservoir required to supply water to the community.

Calculate based on both Method 1 and Method 2 as explained during the lecture.
