Assessment Task:
Classical Architecture's Notions of Aesthetic Perfection Essay Writing Assessment Answer

TASK DESCRIPTION

This task is aimed to develop your understanding of the changing attitudes to the implementation of Classical architecture's notions of aesthetic perfection.

The task will also develop your skills in written analysis beyond merely describing a single idea deployed by an Architect to that of comparing and critically analysing two one case studies which utilise disparate theoretical basis.

In this project you will create an illustrated essay using text and Images which consists of a written analysis and graphic representation of a comparison of how architects of the past have applied principles of proportion and other culturally biased rules to architectural designs for a structure which is not only stable and stable and functional but also exhibits the principles of harmony and aesthetic ‘perfection’.

Additionally, you are required to complete  Worksheet tasks in the weekly forum and workshop sessions which form part of your submission.

BRIEF and PROJECT ELEMENTS

Provide a response to the following  tasks as per detailed instructions provided in the appropriate Lesson Plans:
1] Illustrated essay

Your essay should demonstrate your ability to professionally compare the use of aesthetic principles deployed by the architect of your chosen Case Studies from diverse periods of architectural expression as discussed in the Forum sessions.
One of the case studies should be a building you discussed in Assignment 2.  The other case study must be a building you have chosen from a list of Sydney Revival Style buildings provided on your site visit.
Your comparison will be delivered via written and visual information which must be presented as a document which represents your understanding of the theoretical explanation for proportional principles used by the architect of your chosen Case Studies.  The layout of the essay should present your work with clarity and be of professional quality.

Analytical/comparative text should:
•    Compare your chosen Case studies and should focus on the meaning and the resulting impact on the Architecture of the proportional theory with which the architect has engaged.  Consideration should also be given to the cultural and social context of the buildings or landscapes you have chosen in order to comment on the symbolic significance of geometry and proportion in different periods.
•    It is recommended that you choose your case studies from buildings you have seen in forums or read about in the weekly readings and have visited on the planned tour.
•    One case study should be sourced from Assignment 1 and compared with one from the Sydney tour
•    You will need information from Week 9 and 10 Forums to complete the essay..
•    contain references and quotes sourced from a reliable academic text [referenced in-text]
