2.0 Industry Partner
Suncorp Group Limited has emerged as a leading provider of financial and insurance services headquartered in Brisbane, Australia. Currently, it is operating in two countries - Australia and New Zealand. The company’s history dates back to 1902 when Queensland Agricultural Bank introduced its first branch in the city with the motive of lending money to the rural people. In 1996 the Suncorp group which was owned by the government of Queensland underwent a merger with Meyway Bank to come up with Suncorp Metway which evolved as the fifth largest provider of financial services in Australia. Suncorp Metway was reduced to Suncorp in 2002, which provided insurance solutions in Queensland particularly; and banking and wealth solutions nationwide. Suncorp introduced its new insurance brands namely AAMI, Bingle GIO and so on. In 2016, the company introduced a new logo and a new operating model that focused on “creating a better today for the customers, shareholders, communities and employees”. The current turnover of the company is $15,560 million. As of now, the total number of employees working at Suncorp is over 13,000 and it has approximately nine million customers spread across Australia and New Zealand (Suncorp Group Limited, 2019).
3.0 Research problem
The research problem of the study revolves around the escalating employee turnover rate in Suncorp Group. It can be seen that the employee turnover rate in the Suncorp group has been escalating year by year (Zhang 2016).
It can be understood that the employee turnover rate in Suncorp group has been rising day by day. The annual reports of the company suggest that the employee turnover rate has kept growing right from 12.6% in 2015 to 13% in 2016 and finally 14.4% in the year 2018. Hence, it is necessary to analyze the factors that are affecting that are increasing the employee turnover rate in the company.
It is important to solve the problem because it can cost twice an employee’s salary to recruit, hire and train a replacement. reduction in the goodwill of the company, loss in the current productivity so it is necessary to analyse the problem in the most effective manner.
