Introduction
Job search, if described in easy words, is the process of looking for potentially beneficial employment options. The concept of job search, in this digital age, is intricately associated with networking and the existing economical condition. Job search is a multidimensional process that consists of multiple simultaneously synchronised procedures to successfully get placed, complete an internship, or develop relevant experiences. In this job search reflection, I will be reporting how I have completed the job search for a secure internship as a trainee accountant with KBM Training and Recruitment. Referring to the relevant academic literature on the theories of job search, I would be critically reflecting on the job search process to demonstrate how my job search process relates to the theories of job search. In this reflective report, I would also incorporate my observations on the things that I could have done differently based on the review of the job search theory.

 

The Theory of Job Search: A Review of the Literature
Labour Market
According to Bloemen (1997), search theory is extensively used in economics to evaluate the labour market and job search topics. Search theory has also been applied in the labour economics to evaluate the concept of frictional unemployment that results from comprehensive job- hunting by potential employees. The perspectives of consumer theory, as observed by Caliendo et al. (2013), have also been highly relevant in defining the theory of job search. The way the purchasing power of a consumer is determined by the quality of the product along with its affordability, the acceptability of a job would equally be determined by desirable wage, benefits, and productive work environment.

 

Description
While I was self-assured enough about my abilities, knowledge, perceptions, and skills to find a satisfactory internship placement, striving towards achieving my goals was not that easy. The process of searching the available internship options and being appointed trainee accountant with KBM Training and Recruitment was much more difficult than was I perceived it to be previously. My placement contract with KBM Training and Recruitment is a three-way contract between the University of Greenwich, Business School Employability Office, and myself. I was able to undertake the placement after I completed the first year of studying MBA international business.
Before I was officially recruited as an intern at KBM Training and Recruitment, I was looking forward to doing an accounting course with them as I wanted to involve myself in real business accounting projects for my future benefits. Later, I was offered the internship as I had a consistent academic performance.

 

Analysis
While analysing the choices I made during the period of job searching as well as my time as an intern at KBM Training and Recruitment, I came to realise that I have become more dynamic while searching for a beneficial internship option. My primary aim to get into the internship is to refute my unemployment. As suggested by the job search theories, job-search, theoretically, is important for an individual to develop sequential decision-making variables for an acceptable employment opportunity.

 

Conclusion
Looking back to my experience as a trainee accountant at KBM Training and Recruitment and the job searching, I think that my job search journey began primarily as a solution to my economic condition which then transformed into a way to enhance my inherent skills. Considering the observations drawn from the theory, I can state that I did not have enough alternatives to reject and accept. I did not have enough reservation wage alternatives while looking for internship opportunities online. I have also learnt that during my job search I have not made enough attempts to explore my social contacts i.e. my strong and weak ties while searching for this internship opportunity.
