Please read through the following Case Study. Reflect on your learning and your own research within this Unit. You are to present your case study as formal report to the General Manager. Ensure that you:

1. Identify current issues within this Case Study (as outlined in the situation below).
2. Refer to key sections of a workforce plan and research requirements, labour force analysis and forecasting techniques.
3. Explain your solutions, and any workforce strategies you are recommending for rectifying the situation.
4. Explain how this plan will be implemented, monitored and reviewed to ensure it meets the organisational workforce needs.
5. Provide some simple recommendations (at least 5) for the organisation to improve staff retention, customer satisfaction and diversity in the workplace.

 

Situation

ABC Fitness Centre employs over 50 employees. No employees have been in place for more than ten (10) months. The industry attracts young, healthy and fit personnel, but they do not stay. There is a major skills shortage in the industry. The centre is a franchise, and must meet all financial and legal requirements; which they are currently failing to do. There is a high level of staff turnover and a continuing loss of good and competent employees. The centre is employing students who are studying at college, and seen as cheap labour. This is one of the many reasons why customers and clients are moving away from this centre. Overheads are relatively low, but customers continuously complain about broken machines, no support or help, and changing opening hours of the centre. The local government council sponsors the centre and have warned the Director of HR Services to improve the business. This centre has been operated by the current managers for five (5) years. They are at risk of losing their contract if they do not improve services, performance, and revenue/profits. A new residential centre has opened up five (5) kilometres away, and there is a major increase in younger families within the area. Additionally, there is a new retirement centre, located two (2) kilometres away, whose residents do not currently use the centre. They do not have any facilities of their own.
