Unit Summary

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide professional leadership in improving organisational learning, and the quality of training and assessment products and services. It also covers leading strategy formation; designing, developing and implementing an organisational
learning strategy; and reviewing and improving overall organisational learning and development. It applies to individuals working in an enterprise where learning is used to build capabilities and contribute to organisational strategies, business plans, goals and values.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

 

Assessment Task 1: For Assessment Task 1, students are required to read the given case study on ‘Building a learning organization’ by Garvin (1993) and answer the questions given in relevance to the article. This assessment has to be completed during your session period. Please check with your Trainer and Assessor for due date of submission.

Assessment Task 2: For this assessment task, students are required to access the simulated business case study for ‘Sim’sHardware’. Sim’s Hardware is one of Australia’s largest hardware retailers with 138 stores and approximately 10,000 staff across the country. It provides a wide range of products at competitive prices for the purpose of home improvement and has been a part of the Australian retail landscape since 1921. Lately, there have been growing management concerns about learning and development in the organisation and hence, it is decided to hire an external consultant to evaluate the current situation and propose a learning and development strategy.

Students have to assume themselves as Learning and development Consultant and formulate a report of no less than 2500 to be provided to the management including the discussion of current situation, proposed strategy as well as the implementation procedures. The report has to be written in professional format with no less than 2000 words. It must have proper page number, headings, and adequate references and must include what has been instructed in the assessment.
