Details
Introduction

The introduction is an in-depth and logical presentation of the information available in the peer reviewed literature. Sufficient detail and evidence of critical thinking needs to be provided so that your reader can assess the background and significance of the research question that will be “tested” in the full report. It should not be a simple
description/overview of the subject matter, you need to show depth of understanding of the subject matter. Finish the introduction with a clear statement of your aim and hypothesis.

Methods
The Methods should include descriptions of the analyses that you did, and the software applications and databases you used. Include details of parameter settings in enough detail that the analyses could be repeated by a reader who is at least as experienced as you. The methods section should be written in paragraph form in third person past tense (i.e. describe what was done). Do not simply re-present the instructions for the analyses as given in the pracs. All the software and databases you used should be cited in the text, and a full reference provided in the Reference section. Include software version numbers where available. Not all databases have citations, but most of them do. For online databases, also provide the URL and date accessed of the specific section of the database used (i.e. not just “NCBI”).

Results
A description of your key findings in the results section should include a synopsis of your key results, and tables &/or images where appropriate (e.g. phylogenetic tree or functional domain predictions). There should be no raw data included in this section. Only include the outcome of analyses that you have done.

Discussion
This is the bit where you show that you have thought about what you have done, and are able to explain what it means. In the discussion section you should describe the significance of your results in the context of your experiment, as well as in relation to what has been reported by other authors (in directly or indirectly related experiments). This section is the hardest to write well. Try to avoid falling into the trap of simply repeating your results in this section.
