Subject Code : Agriculture
Assignment Task

Assessment guidelines:
The task: You have been given the job writing a disease management plan for a pathogen of an agricultural crop or pasture. You must describe the pathogen, affected crops or pastures the make recommendations for effective management of the pathogen.
Your report: Your assignment should include the following:
1. Introduction

2. Pathogen description, life-cycle / disease cycle

3. Outline of integrated disease management program including a description of a set action threshold.

4. Table of integrated disease management program

5. Conclusion

6. References – use at least six good-quality references.
You will be assessed based on:
• Depth of insight into how the pathogen affect an agriculturaly important crop and how it is effectively managed
• Depth of research undertaken
• Appropriate in text referencing and the quality of references selected
Word limit: Students should prepare their assignments within the stated word limit + 10%. Unless otherwise stated the word count for an assignment will be calculated using all the text in the body of the assignment (including headings and in-text citations) but not the reference list or text in figures, tables or figure legends. This does not mean that you can put
large amounts of extra text in tables and figures. For example, any table that includes text more than 30% of the original word limit would be assessed very seriously for relevance, concise language and whether the information is appropriate to present in a table.
Format/Presentation Your assessment should be double spaced. Subheadings are a useful way to guide your reader through your report. Marks for figures, tables and legends are allocated in the Format/Presentation section of the rubric (see below).

Figures, Tables and Legends: All figures and tables in your report need to have a legend. Any text or label within the figure must be clear. The legend is a description of a figure or table that is included in a scientific paper. They include a title and an explanation of any abbreviations or labelling that is not self-explanatory. The rule of thumb: you must provide enough information in the legend to interpret the figure or table. The legend for a figure goes below the figure. The legend for a table goes above the table. You must refer to each table or figure included in your report somewhere in the main text of the report. If you are using a figure (or table) from a published source make sure you attribute the figure to that source with an in-text citation, then put the reference in the reference list.
Referencing (quality, in-text citation and reference list): We expect that you will use a range of sources of information for this assessment. Peer-reviewed journal articles are primary sources and generally should form the majority of the reference sources you use for reports. However, for this report, it is appropriate to use industry/trade journals and text books. There is no set number of references that you need to cite but obviously you will not get full marks for quality of references if you only include a small number of low quality references.
All references listed in the references section must have been cited somewhere in the body of your report (in-text citation). The reference section needs to be organised in the approved style which is the Melbourne Polytechnic version of the Harvard style. Using references in your writing enables readers to check your ideas or follow up your sources for themselves and also gives due credit to the person/people who produced the original information. Ideas are a kind of 'intellectual property', owned by their creators. Therefore, when you use someone else's idea in your writing, it is important to clearly show the difference between your own ideas and theirs. A further reason for using references in your writing is to give your assignment weight and authority and back up your arguments.
If your sources of ideas or figures are not acknowledged and attributed, LTU considers this plagiarism, and you will be referred to the Academic Integrity Advisor. If in any doubt, please redo the La Trobe Academic Integrity Module (LTU0AIM) and then ask your subject coordinator for help if needed.
